Founder Friday: This isn’t a swim cap… but it kinda is 💦 The SKU says swim

Happy Founder Friday, Family!

Summer is not over yet ☀️

Which means it’s the perfect time to talk about something that’s been bugging me for years: hats in the pool.

We already solved the problem of keeping your hair dry in the pool with our swim cap—that’s locked.

But me being me, I couldn’t help but notice something else. 👀

For years now, I’ve been on pool watch.

And what I noticed? About 85% of folks hanging in the pool leisurely are wearing some type of hat.

Random trucker hats, baseball caps, even bucket hats... most of the time, not the cutest, and rarely matching the swimsuit.

So I got curious. Were they trying to cover up messy hair?

Hide from the sun? Or just keep it cute?

Turns out, mostly it’s to keep the sun out of their face.

I've spent many vacation days surveying strangers about why they have on hats and where they found them.

But since they knew those hats weren’t pool-proof, they were throwing on any old hat they wouldn’t mind ruining.

Ask me how I know. (I definitely ruined one of my favorite trucker hats in the pool once...it dried with a dent that never came out. But I digress.) 🫠

Which brings me to the real tea.

You see, t he Baseball Cap was always about the pool.

Even though we launched it as a chic, everyday Baseball Hat, the real origin was me obsessing over how to give you a hat that belonged in the pool—but didn’t look like it.

Truth is, I didn’t know how to market it at first.

Was it a swim cap? A waterproof cap? A baseball swim cap?

So I chickened out and positioned it as an all weather hat.
