The drives through the camp are long and the terrain, rugged. I've always been committed to ensuring our products stand out, but witnessing firsthand the difference they make in such extreme conditions was a revelation. My only oversight? Not packing an XL size for the gentlemen on the trip.
For those who've never considered an African safari, I can't recommend it enough. It's an experience that's both humbling and awe-inspiring, made even more special by sharing it with fellow dreamers and doers, all while donning a piece of my very own creation. At Hairbrella, we're driven by the mission to empower you to face any weather head-on, encouraging you to seize every adventure that life throws your way.
It had been a dream of mine to get my products in Oprah’s hands for... well, forever. So to have this happen was a dream come true
Of course, I immediately wanted to make it as perfect as possible, not only for her but for our Hairbrella Family. I knew if this was an issue for her, plenty of you may need a size-up too.
Taking this to heart, we dove back into our creative studio and tweaked our designs to create a larger size that’s as accommodating as it is protective.
We’ve reimagined it to ensure no one is left in the shade. This new size option is designed to comfortably fit all protective hairstyles, head sizes, braids, curls and dreams of a perfect sun-soaked day.
But why stop at size? We've also improved on looks, too. The satin lining and sweatband now seamlessly match the hat's exterior hue, adding a touch of elegance and harmony to your sun protection.

It's that time of the week again - Founder Friday! And today, I'm beyond excited to share something that's not just a product, but a warm embrace during these frigid times - the NEW Hairbrella Infinity Rain Scarf. 🥶
As an Atlanta native, cold weather and I are not the best of friends. We hibernate at the first sign of extreme weather (I even decided against attending Howard University because I needed a bubble coat during the Spring Break visitor tour - Spelman was the best decision anyway, but I digress :)). But, as busy women, we can't always avoid braving the cold. 👀
I've always kept an infinity scarf within arm's reach - in my car, in my bag - you name it. It was my go-to for a quick head cover, especially during my days in corporate America when I had to walk quite a distance to my building. (See the many selfies I took on my morning commutes from 2011-2016. I was not a happy camper. 😩🧣❄️)
But those flimsy materials did little to combat the cold, and the hair static and cotton balls left in my hair were not cute! One time I walked into the office with part of my hair sticking up after snatching off my scarf? Yep, looked like I'd had a close encounter with a socket. A mess.
I also noticed many of you pairing our Classic Rain Hat with a hood or scarf in winter (I was doing the same). You didn't ask for it, but I saw a need. And that's how I got the idea for the Hairbrella Infinity Rain Scarf.
So, in true Hairbrella fashion, born out of frustration with the elements and the lackluster headwear in the market, I set out to create the ultimate infinity scarf. A scarf that doesn't just promise warmth but also keeps your hair looking fabulous.
We crafted it from scratch (as always), using our premium knit fabric with hydrophobic technology. It's not just waterproof but also repels moisture - be it rain, sleet, or snow, you'll stay warm, cozy, and dry!
The design process was a journey - countless patterns to ensure the scarf sat perfectly around your neck, with a sleek, satin-lined hood that doubles as an infinity scarf. It was crucial that it looked like a high-quality scarf even without the hood. Versatility was key!
I'm thrilled to introduce this scarf to you. It's our first step into outerwear, 👀 and we're eager for you to experience the comfort and luxury of the Hairbrella Infinity Rain Scarf. The journey from concept to sharing it with you is always exhilarating, and I can't wait to unveil what else we have in store for 2024. ❤️
PS - A little heads-up: We launched these scarves on Thursday, and wow, did we underestimate the demand! If you found your favorite color sold out yesterday, we've diverted additional stock from Amazon to our site, ready to ship on Monday. Don't miss out on your new favorite Hairbrella accessory. Trust me, you're going to LOVE it!

Dear Hairbrella Family,

This milestone is a testament to our commitment to excellence and innovation in hair care. (It was also the longest standing image on my vision board. So grateful!)
BTW the Oprah effect is still VERY real! Thank you Motha O!!! Also, go see Color Purple! OK, back to this email. :)
Our journey this year has been about more than just launching products. It's been a celebration of innovation, resilience, and community. Each product, whether it's our swim cap, sun hat, beanie, boonie hat, or the headbands and hair ties, has been a response to your needs and a reflection of your stories.
As the founder of Hairbrella, seeing our vision come to life and resonate with so many of you is a dream come true. Your reviews, stories, and feedback are the lifeblood of our brand, and they fuel our passion to keep innovating.

END OF YEAR SALE |
Heart hugs and well-wishes, my friends. 2024 is going to be one for the books for us all! Let's claim it ! See you soon!
I hope you all had a great week! As promised, I'm taking you guys behind the scenes of our newest innovation: the Hairbrella Swim Cap.
Did you know that Benjamin Franklin invented the original swim cap in the early 18th century? I didn't either and there's some debate about that. But supposedly, he created it to combat the drag that slowed him down while swimming. However, as practical as this invention was, it certainly wasn't designed with the modern woman (or hair protection) in mind .
Much like the traditional rain bonnets, swim caps just never worked for me. Too tight, uncomfortable, and ill-fitting. But the worst part? They weren't adjustable.
When developing our flagship Classic Rain Hat back in 2015 , it baffled me how we wouldn't step in the shower without a shower cap, but thought a flimsy plastic bonnet or umbrella would suffice to protect hair in the suffice.
Our hair's fundamental need in the shower/rain/humidity: complete insulation.
Our hair's fundamental need when submerged: complete insulation + a secure seal around our heads to keep water out.
If any hat on the planet should be adjustable, it is a swim cap!
Searching for a truly adjustable swim cap online, I came up empty-handed. (At this point, I'm pretty-convinced a higher power blinded thousands of intelligent people to this problem just so I could solve it and create the first unicorn consumer product brand founded by a black inventor (more on this later) 🙏🏽. It’s a wild theory, but it seems so obvious, right? 😆)
Not the bayang! 😆 This is what I found when searching "adjustable swim cap" - I loved the fashion element of this one, but I was pretty sure it wasn't designed to protect hair.
So, I got to work following the same three steps I always take when developing a new Hairbrella hero product:
1. Research the market: Bought all the top swim caps on Amazon and read hundreds of reviews. I also talked to dozens of Hairbrella customers about what they'd like to see in a Hairbrella Swim Cap.
2. Research google patents for swim caps: Scoured patents to ensure I wasn't infringing on anyone's intellectual property and to identify what worked (and perhaps didn't) in the past.
3. Create a prototype: Got my hands on some waterproof fabrics from my favorite jobber in Decatur, whipped out the fabric glue, safety pins, and scissors, and got crafting. The result? A patchwork creation lovingly dubbed "the Frankenstein" by Hoda Malacane, who’s helped bring many Hairbrella products to life.
Hoda - the prototyping and development queen! 👑
So that's how it all begins! How we go from concept to prototype. Stay tuned for next week's edition where we'll delve into the iteration and testing process - it's quite the adventure!
And hey, if you have a friend looking to develop their own product, do them a favor and forward this to them. Invite them to join our Facebook group, too. I'm always excited to share my journey in hopes that it inspires or empowers someone else on their journey.
PS: Our Swim Caps are launching to the public this weekend! Be sure to get yours before they sell out!
Thank you for being a part of this journey, Hairbrella fam! Can't wait to see you next Friday.
Love,

Happy Founder Friday! 🎉
You know how we do - it's time for another exciting peek behind the curtain as we unveil the magical journey of creating our latest game-changer: the Hairbrella Swim Cap! 🚀
Now, we all know the struggle when it comes to traditional swim caps, right? It's like every manufacturer has created every possible variation of color, design and size of the swim cap, but missed the memo that we actually want to keep our hair DRY.🙆♀️💦
I was confused.
As you probably know by now, our mission is to provide you with the most innovative and elevated hair coverings from day to night and for every situation under the sun (or water!). From DIY projects to travel to swimming - we've got you covered! And when you think about hair protection, we want you to think of US! 🌞
So, let's talk about traditional swim caps.
Apparently, they were originally designed to reduce drag and keep hair out of swimmers' faces. Which is fine. But, 99% of the time, I'm swimming for fun and leisure...and the main reason I'd ever pass up on a day at the pool is avoiding the hassle of ruining my hair and figuring what to do with it after the pool.
The problem? There was no swim cap on the market that was adjustable. We tested its resistance to velocity (jumping in like a canon-ball), its ability to handle big hair (goddess locs, we see you!), and its unyielding grip after long hours of wear. It's the most effective swim cap on the market - a game-changer, a hair protector extraordinaire! 🌟
The best part? You guys get to be the FIRST to try it! 🙌
We can't wait to see you rocking your Hairbrella Swim Caps and enjoying the pool and beach like never before.
Please don't forget to send us your feedback, tag us on social media, and spread the word to your friends and family. Let's make a splash together! 🌊
Before I wrap this up, remember that our journey doesn't end with the Swim Cap.
Oh no, we're just getting started! From idea to innovation, we're here to fundamentally redesign age-old staples, making them better than ever before.
So, spread the Hairbrella love, get your swim cap before we sell out (the classic black swim cap is already on backorder 😭, and stay tuned for the next chapter of this thrilling adventure.
You are the heart of what we do, and we're beyond grateful to have you by our side on this incredible ride. ❤️
Thank you, Hairbrella Fam! Have an amazing weekend and lets make the most of this summer!
Rain or shine,
Tracey
I NEED THE WORLD'S BEST SWIM CAP |
Happy Founder Friday! ☀️
Summer is in full swing, and I just got back from a mesmerizing vacation in the Bahamas at Baha Mar.
I was there celebrating a monumental occasion – the 40th birthday of my dear friend, mentor and huge Hairbrella supporter, Labriah Lee. And oh, the relaxation vibes on the beach were surreal and much needed!
However, the Bahamas introduced me to an intensity of sun I've never quite experienced 🥵👀.
Historically, I'm that person soaking up rays without a fuss, often just relying on my trusty shades or a casual baseball cap.
But the Bahamian sun? It was on another level.
Thank goodness I had packed my Hairbrella sun hat (though, between us, it was initially more for the aesthetic and photos 😉). However, it quickly became my beach savior.
It felt like I was putting our Hairbrella Sun Hat through the ultimate test.
And let me tell you, it passed with flying colors! Here's a quick breakdown of what made it stand out during this trip:
Your stories and experiences with Hairbrella mean the world to me. So, while you're out there making memories, don't forget to snap a photo and share with #hairbrella.
Your feedback helps us innovate and cater to all your needs, regardless of the forecast! ☀️☔️🏝
And if the Hairbrella Sun Hat isn't in your summer arsenal, now's the time.
Our 20% off summer sale [Code: SUMMER20] wraps up this weekend!
Cheers to the weekend and to staying polished, protected, and prepared, come rain or shine!

2. Gather your hair into a low ponytail or bun.
3. Pop the cap on at the back of your head, then pull it forward over your hair.
4. Tuck in any straggly hairs to keep it all secure.
5. Fasten the clasp until it goes "click" (that's the sound of confidence).
6. To avoid any trapped air shenanigans, give the cap a little press down on the crown.
7. Now, for the finishing touch, pull those rubber straps in opposite directions for 3-5 seconds, once you feel it tightening, repeat this again from the part of the strap closest to the clasp and voilà! You're swim-ready and water-resistant! 🌊
Pro tip: while some customers are able to secure the cap with ears in, leaving ears out provides a fail safe fit!
Also, I wanted to say thank you for making our launch a huge success!
We are already on our third shipment due to demand and the feedback from you all has been absolutely amazing! 🥰
I can't tell you how thrilled I am that you love it as much as I do! 😍
There were also a few questions that have come in, so let me answer some of those as well:

📏 Sizes:

Meet Liana. She's 6 and modeling the adult classic. It works well, but the kids size will be even better! Coming soon.
For Extensions, Braids and Locs: Absolutely! The model below is wearing the classic size, but if you have thicker braids or locs, the XL will be the perfect fit.

How to Video:
I am thrilled to introduce THE new Hairbrella Swim Cap to our audience. We've had some truly exciting releases over the years, but I've been anticipating this one the most since our flagship product -- the Classic Rain Hat.
(☝️ Actual footage of my inner child's excitement about this launch!)
(☝️ Thinking of the terror that awaits me when my mom has to wash and detangle my hair later)
So, why a swim cap?
My vision is to create the most innovative and elevated hair coverings on the market. Even though we've launched various solutions for different scenarios in which you may want to protect your hair, the swim cap was the most daunting product to "reinvent".
Over the past two years, I was repeatedly told it was impossible to develop a non-silicon, comfortably fitting cap that could keep water out while allowing hair to remain protected, and even styled, underneath.
But, if you know me.. now I had a challenge to conquer. ;)
My Experience with Swim Caps:
I had given up on swim caps years ago. It was hard to believe that we were expected to don these rubber contraptions, only for water to seep in and ruin our hairstyles anyway! 😫
Besides, they were exceedingly tight and uncomfortable, pulling back my eyebrows and making me feel like an unwelcome member of the "Coneheads" family. I knew there had to be another way!
Therefore, I embarked on a journey to create a swim cap that was thoughtfully designed, comfortable, sleek, and genuinely effective!
Reason #1:
Like with our sleep caps and rain hats, I soon discovered why traditional swim caps had not met our needs. The manufacturing industry had neglected innovation in this area to cater to women who desired hair protection in any situation. Despite it taking a significant amount of time and more than 30 iterations, I am confident that we have nailed it.
Reason #2:
You guys asking for it!
It was evident that of all the "Hair Coverings", the swim cap was desperately in need of a "Hairbrella" makeover.
Some of you even started wearing our rain hats in the pool (casually giving me a heart attack because they weren't designed to be submerged). Your experience, however, encourages (and relieved) me, as it worked better than most swim caps.
It was clearly time to tackle this challenge and upgrade you all to the real deal!
TikTok
(☝️ One of my favorite TikTok clips from a customer in the pool!)
(☝️ One of our investors, Arian Simone, testing the rain hat on a water slide with her hair pressed! I was shocked how well it worked. She told me to get on it and we got to work!)
Throughout the month, I'll share more about the process of creating this swim cap so you all can see what goes into designing a Hairbrella.
We start each one from scratch, aiming to address every frustration you've ever had with a product.
I can't wait to share!
In the meantime, be sure to order your swim cap before we release it to the public. We've decided to do a pre-sale for our Hairbrella community, as inventory will be very limited.
I'm excited for you all to try it! As always, thank you for being the fuel that keeps us going and growing. We appreciate you <3!

]]>Tracing the historical threads of the bonnet, an enduring symbol of femininity and resilience, reveals a narrative as diverse as the women who have donned it. Originating in Europe, the bonnet journeyed to America with the 17th-century settlers, serving as a practical head covering across racial and class boundaries. However, the bonnet's historical significance and its evolution is far richer and more global than often recognized.
According to researchers at Crowned, bonnets have been an integral part of Black women's hair care regimes for centuries, not just in America, but across the African diaspora. In South Africa and Jamaica, women have long worn head coverings known as dukus and doek, respectively, to protect their hair. These traditions, coupled with the experiences of Black women in America, have shaped the narrative of hair coverings, informing the bonnet's modern interpretation and usage.
It was with this rich legacy in mind that Hairbrella was born. I, as a Black woman, recognized the lack of effective solutions to shield my hair from the elements. The available options were often subpar, failing to meet the specific needs of women like me. However, as I embarked on this journey to create a better solution, I realized that this challenge was not unique to me. Women from all walks of life, from wheelchair users to professionals navigating a foot commute in NYC, shared similar concerns. This realization gave rise to our mission at Hairbrella - to create innovative and elevated hair coverings for all women.
At Hairbrella, we are about more than just hair protection. We aim to be a bridge between cultures, fostering understanding and unity. We acknowledge the diverse histories and unique experiences of women worldwide, understanding that while our hair may behave differently, there's so much more that unites us than divides us. We strive to be a catalyst for reconciliation and inspiration, fostering a community where women inspire, celebrate, and uplift one another.
As part of our mission, we encourage our community to respond to divisive comments with love and unity. We all deserve to feel fabulous in a chic sleep cap, regardless of our hair type or background. 💁🏾♀️💁🏼♀️💁🏻♀️
We invite you to join our Facebook group, a platform to voice your concerns, provide feedback, and learn about our exciting upcoming projects. Lastly, thank you to each one of you for being part of our journey. I am humbled by the lessons learned and the connections made as Hairbrella has grown. Here's to a future filled with boundless possibilities, as we continue to honor the bonnet's rich history and pioneer inclusive innovation for years to come. ;)

As you may know, I invented the Hairbrella Rain Hat because it rained literally EVERY time I went to the salon growing up, like a curse! And there was no rain hat out there that completely insulated my hair from rain and humidity.
Well, last year I started wearing my natural curls and braids more often, and a new frustration emerged. My sleep cap was falling off EVERY time I went to bed. I searched Amazon, tried several sleep caps, and found myself thinking once again…why hasn’t this been solved!?
So, we went to work creating a sleep cap that not only stays put all night but has a hidden pocket to hide the excess elastic (another frustration).
To make it the ultimate sleep cap, we extended the satin-lining to the band to protect your edges, and we used a new adaptation of our premium microfiber so that it would be lightweight, durable, and breathable.
We are getting incredible feedback (see reviews), but I realized that the majority of the sales were coming from new customers!
This is great, buuuut I really want my day one’s to know about it. If you love your Hairbrella rain hat, you are going to love love the sleep new cap! I’m slightly obsessed with it and wanted to make sure our Hairbrella fam wasn’t left out.
I'm so excited about it that I'm including a $5 gift code: "DAYONES" as my gift to you for being part of the Hairbrella family. And as always, you either love it or send it back for free!

I can’t believe it’s been 10 years since I created the Hairbrella rain hat prototype. It wasn’t pretty, but it was a step up from my original “solution” - wearing a plastic shower cap under my favorite beanie.
One day, I walked into one of my law school classes and pulled off the beanie and exposed the shower cap. I was embarrassed to say the least, but I was willing to do whatever it took to save all the time and money that I had invested in my hair.
Fast forward to today, we’ve expanded our product line to create innovative and elevated hair coverings including a unisex line of rain hats, sleep caps and even scrub caps.
These have been a huge hit, and while many of us (me included) have been using our rain hats as shower caps, we decided it was time to make a Hairbrella Shower Cap.
As always, we read hundreds of reviews and tested dozens of shower caps to design the ultimate shower cap that I know you will love:
I’ve been using it for a couple of months now and am excited to bring it to you. It is a MAJOR upgrade from the flimsy plastic shower caps we’ve been subjected to and the perfect addition to your Hairbrella collection.
In fact, I'm so excited about it that I'm including a $5 gift code: "DAYONES" as my gift to you for being part of the Hairbrella family. And as always, you either love it or send it back for free!

]]>The Sun Visor
A sun visor hat is created to have the protection against the sun. It performs just like a visor you see in your car. The varieties can be different, and some visors can also protect your side face from the sun.
The visor comes adjustable using the strip in the back, and it also keeps your hairstyle clean.
It is a complete protection to your eyes as well.
The top of your head stays cool and sweat less. However, not covering your head top makes it prone to sunburn.
The Billed Cap
The billed cap keeps your face secured against sun plus shades your eyes.
Unlike, a visor, the cap protects your overall head against different factors like sun, wind, and rain.
As it covers the top of the head, you can feel it sweaty there. But as these are sweat-wicking and breathable, these caps are best for summers.
Different caps come with various add-ons such as the hole for your ponytail, adjusting string, etc.
Rain Hats
Women's rain hats are extremely useful in the rainy season for women who are conscious about their hair health.
A hair hat is made of waterproof material that goes behind your neck and protects the head completely.
The strip keeps it tight and in place.
The satin lining acts very softly against your hair and protects your hairdo.
These rain hats can be preferred for both women and kids as per their size and take no hassle in monsoon.
Sun Hats
This is a typical sun hat that covers the overall head while having shade on your eyes.
It can be a great choice in summers that keep the head, face, and neck covered from the sunrays.
They protect your face, neck, and head from the sun and heat and prevent red neck.
A sun hat can be bought with a strip that keeps it in place even in the windy aura.
The disadvantage is you have to repeat the hairstyle as it can mess with your hairdo.
If you prefer wearing headphones, then you have to be disappointed as the hat does not feel comfy.
Conclusion
These are some of the types of hats that women prefer to buy. Hats in summer are always trendy, but they are equally essential in the rain as well. Buying women’s hats for rain can keep you hassle-free by keeping your hair dry and safe along with managing your hairstyle.

]]>Meet Tracey Pickett. She is a young entrepreneur whose company has created the Hairbrella, an innovative way to protect hair and makeup from getting ruined in inclement weather. Think of a rain hat for your hair, but the company stresses that “this is not your Grandma’s hair bonnet” on its Facebook page.
Brandon Andrews of Values Partnerships and a Black Enterprise contributor sat down with the Hairbrella CEO.
Andrews: Women have created many ways to protect their hair from the elements. How is Hairbrella different?
Pickett: It’s funny because while there are a variety of rain hat options (plastic bonnets, bucket caps, umbrella hats, etc.), none of them completely insulated my hair from rain and humidity. And worse, they smash hair down, ruining whatever style I might have.
Hairbrella is the first ever satin-lined rain hat that completely insulates women’s hair from the rain while preserving their style. I felt it was time to reinvent the rain hat to combine the protection of a shower cap with the stylish appeal of a beanie. In addition to our unique 100% waterproof microfiber exterior, we incorporated a satin lining to keep hair soft and moisturized, a UV protective visor to keep makeup flawless, and a hidden storage pocket for easy travel and storage.
It is truly a solution to an age-old problem that women all over the world face on a regular basis.
After developing the Hairbrella concept, what was the tipping point for you? When did you know you had to start the business?
I knew that I had to start the business every time it rained and I saw a woman running with a plastic bag on her head. This was an obvious problem that women all over the world face on a regular basis, and I knew that the product I was designing would solve it.
I also knew that if I didn’t do it, someone else eventually would, and I would be extremely upset with myself for sleeping on the idea.
You have a design patent for Hairbrella. What tips do you have for other entrepreneurs looking to protect their innovations?
If you have an idea that you believe is patent-worthy, do as much research as you can online to see if your idea already exists. If you don’t find it, get in touch with a patent attorney or firm and have them do more formal research to determine whether or not your idea has a good chance of approval.
If the search turns out favorably, I’d recommend getting a provisional utility patent: a low-cost solution to buy some time before filing a full utility patent or proceeding with a design patent where applicable. Once these patent filings are registered with the USPTO [United States Patent and Trademark Office], you can feel more confident about developing and pitching your idea with a “patent pending” status.
Additionally, it is wise to have an NDA in place when disclosing the idea to anyone and also having proper contracts in place for any third-party professionals that may assist with the product’s development. This will ensure that your IP rights are protected throughout that process.
Does the design speak to the needs of women of color in particular?
Pickett: I often get the question, “Did you design Hairbrella for black women?” Now of course, rain/humidity is the archnemesis for our hair. And it was definitely designed to meet the needs of women of color because I experienced this problem on a regular basis (it rained virtually every time I went to the salon). However, rain and humidity affect the vast majority of hair types–causing swelling, flattening, frizzing, etc., depending on the texture. To put it simply, moisture returns your hair to its original/natural state, so if you’ve done anything to style it, rain and humidity will ruin it.
So to answer the question, the design speaks to every woman that spends any time or money styling her hair. If you wear a shower cap in the shower, you need a Hairbrella for the rain.
You pitched at our Atlanta Shark Tank casting call. What does the opportunity appear on Season 10 of Shark Tank mean to you?
Aside from the day, I get to sit down and talk to Oprah (*prayer hands*), appearing on Shark Tank would be the most amazing opportunity of my professional life!
It has been my dream ever since the show’s first season. I’ve been coming up with product and business ideas since I was a kid, but Shark Tank ignited my passion for entrepreneurship and helped me build the confidence that one day, I could have a product idea that would impact millions of lives. It is truly the American dream, and I think it is important that faces from all cultures are represented so that young, aspiring minds can build the same confidence that helps them pursue their dreams.
It would be especially amazing to appear on Shark Tank this season if Sara Blakely (founder of Spanx) happens to be a guest on the panel. In 2012, I had a small amount of money saved up to start the patent process for Hairbrella (I was calling it the “rain beanie” at the time). I had been reading about Sara Blakely’s journey and how she started her company with $5,000 she had in savings.
